FTTH Pre-connector solution

FTTH Network: Pre-connectorized Optical Distribution Network

The race to deploy Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) is intensifying.

Traditional ODN networks often struggle with high FTTH deployment costs, inefficient fiber utilization, and complex, labor-intensive installation.

Op2Link revolutionizes this process with a Pre-connectorized Optical Distribution Network (ODN) solution that integrates pre-terminated fibers and unbalanced splitters, enabling faster deployment, lower costs, and simplified operations.

This blog introduces the Pre-connectorized FTTH ODN solution that is fully compatible with HUAWEI FastConnect ODN.

Why Use Pre-connectorized Optical Distribution Network(ODN)?

The data in the above figure is based on time measurements from actual projects conducted by Op2Link.

Traditional ODN deployment of a 150-meter OSP takes 5 workers 75 minutes each (375 minutes total). With pre-connectorized ODN, just 3 workers need 60 minutes each, cutting total deployment time by 52% to 180 minutes.

The required products: Pre-connectorized FTTH ODN Solution

Op2Link’s comprehensive pre-connectorized solution transforms traditional, skill-dependent field work (like fusion splicing) into simple plug-and-play operations through factory pre-termination and interface standardization. This significantly boosts deployment efficiency, reduces installation complexity and skill requirements, and ensures consistent, high-quality connections.

Hub Box (Central Aggregation Distribution Box)

This serves as the central distribution point of the fiber-optic network, typically installed in equipment rooms or street cabinets. It receives the main feeder cable from the service provider and distributes the optical signal to various branch directions through its internal optical splitters.

Pre-connectorized Distribution Cable

This is a pre-terminated cable that runs from the Hub Box to areas near end-users (e.g., building corridors or utility poles). With connectors factory-preinstalled on both ends, it allows for direct plug-and-play deployment in the field, eliminating the need for onsite fusion splicing.

SUB FAT (Secondary Fiber Access Terminal)

Installed at user access points (e.g., building entrances or curbside), this box acts as the endpoint for the distribution cable and the starting point for customer drop cables. It can house optical splitters to divide the signal from one backbone fiber among multiple end-users.

End FAT (End Fiber Access Terminal)

Similar in function to the SUB FAT, this is the terminal access point located even closer to the end-user. It typically represents the final access point in the fiber distribution network, directly connecting individual subscribers.

Pre-connectorized Drop Cable

This is the final stretch of cable that connects from the SUB FAT or End FAT into the customer’s premises. Also factory-preterminated, it enables a quick, reliable, and “plug-and-play” customer connection.

Unbalanced-FTTH-Network-Architecture

This solution is built around a streamlined, single-fiber “unbalanced chain” architecture – a pre-configured, plug-and-play unit designed for efficient deployment.

A single-fiber solution, where each unbalanced chain comprises three SUB FATs and one END FAT

This smart configuration supports up to 32 subscribers per chain, providing a scalable and reliable building block for fast FTTH network rollout.

Benefit of Pre-connectorized Optical Distribution Network

Pre-connectorized Optical Distribution Network represents a paradigm shift from traditional methods, offering decisive advantages across installation, cabling, deployment speed, and long-term reliability.

1. Flexible, End-to-End Plug-and-Play Installation

Eliminates the dependency on highly skilled fiber splicing technicians. Our solution empowers general personnel to perform deployments after minimal training, significantly reducing labor costs and resource constraints.

2. Radically Simplified Fiber Cabling

Shifts from the resource-heavy approach of deploying 12 or 24-fiber cables to a precise, demand-driven model. By requiring only 1 or 2-fiber cables, we drastically simplify cable management and conserve critical conduit and fiber resources.

3. Accelerated Deployment Through Parallel Installation

The pre-connectorized, boxed cable design enables a parallel workflow. Multiple teams can install sections simultaneously, bypassing the sequential bottleneck of field splicing and slashing overall project timelines.

4. Enhanced Reliability with a Decade-Long Warranty

We back the superior, factory-grade quality of our pre-terminated connections with a 10-year warranty-doubling the industry-standard 5-year coverage. This commitment underscores the system’s exceptional durability and operational lifespan, ensuring lower lifetime costs.

Traditional ODN Network vs. Pre-connectorized FTTH ODN Network

FAT cascading in FastConnect fiber optic cable, plug and play

Traditional fiber deployment involves removing the fiber from the cable jacket for each FAT termination.

Pre-connectorized FTTH ODN deployment enables plug-and-play installation without splicing or reopening the FAT.
